Prisma, which was launched as a photo editing app for applying art filters on photos and turn them into a painting based on the applied filter, is now able to apply the same filters on videos! So now you can turn your videos into moving paintings like an animation video!
Like the Photo filter feature, the new video filter is also launched firstly on the iOS App store and is available to download on an iPhone. The Prisma team is working on the Android version app and this feature will soon be available on Android devices.

The one drawback of this app that decreased its popularity is the high time and resources it takes to apply the filters. Since this is an AI based feature, the processing requires lots of time, especially on low-specs devices. This is the main reason it is launched for iOS devices first as most of them have the good processing power. The Android smartphones, though used by around 90% of people worldwide, ranges from low-end to high-end processing powers. The low-end phones have struggled to process Prisma filters on images, so you can imagine how hard it will be for video processing.
You can imagine the resources it requires for processing by considering the time it takes to process a 15 seconds video on following Apple smartphones:
- iPhone 7 – up to 30 seconds
- iPhone 6s – up to 60 seconds
- iPhone 6 – up to 120 seconds
The updated app can now apply filters to videos and spit out 15-second snippets. It can now process files even if you are offline. Currently there are only nine filters that will work on the videos, more filters will be added soon. Soon the company will also add support for GIFs.
